Leadership: Titles Don’t Make Leaders

During my time as Vice President, I learned that leadership isn’t about titles. A designation may give authority, but influence comes only from actions.

I’ve worked with managers who had impressive titles but struggled to inspire teams. On the other hand, I’ve seen frontline supervisors with no formal power who led by example, motivated people, and solved problems proactively. Real leadership is measured by the trust you build, not the size of your office.

One experience stands out: during a production crisis, instead of giving orders from my office, I spent two days on the shop floor with the team, troubleshooting side by side. That small act of presence transformed the atmosphere (GEMBA Walk). The team worked with energy, not fear. Together, we fixed the issue faster than expected.

Leadership is about showing up, setting the tone, and enabling others to succeed. Titles fade, but impact lasts.
